Do rental car services have their own insurance on the automobiles that we rent, regardless if we have our own Rental agencies are self insured and their bond doesn't apply to renters. The renter is responsible for either having auto insurance that transfers to a rental OR purchasing insurance at the counter in order to be properly covered in their vehicle. The larger companies self-insure their rental auto fleets. Almost all Rental Car agencies offer their insurance as an add-on....it is NOT required that you buy it...but I would because its worth it... Regardless of what they have, the customer is still 100% responsible for any damage. Your insurance - if you have any - will cover it minus deductible but rental companies usually find a way to take advantage of their customers, and this is the reason I buy additional coverage from them - yes they are crooks, but it definitely is cheaper than to deal with them in case of an accident. Most car rental companies insured their cars for their own security and as a good feature for their customers, but in case a company dont i suggest you look for other company... It's NOT there to cover you, it's there to cover them. If you damaged/destroyed one of their vehicles, you will pay nonetheless. Insurance goes with vehicles, not with people. They will also typically offer you collision coverage for an additional charge that will cover you if you damage the vehicle through your fault. |
