As an American citizen, open a bank account at Lloyd's in Guadalajara, Mexico, and does anyone know where one |
I am looking for transfer options without rediculous wire fees. I have an account at Lloyd (the San Miguel de Allende branch). They have a good deposit option via mail. You can send US dollar checks and international money orders to an address they will give you in San Diego. A courier crosses the border every day and picks up the mail then brings it back to Tijuana for deposit. Mark your checks "For Deposit Only" with your account number for safety. This has worked very well for me as a way to put money into my Lloyd account without having to pay expensive transfer or wire fees. If time is on your side, you can use snail-mail, have the bank send you or the institution of your choice a check. Electronic transferes are also usually free (depends on bank), but take about 2-3 business days. If you are moving money from a bank here (USA) to a bank there (Mexico) you can also set up a bill-pay option and a check will be cut from your bank to the receiving bank free of charge.
