Yes!

The government have plans to snatch the money from bank accounts that lay dormant in bank accounts for over 15 years. This money will then be moved to a separate goverment account (see article below).

I think it would depend on the terms and conditions of the bank when you opened the account. They should be clearly laid out. For example some banks may have the discretion of closing an account that they deem "inactive" - this may be 10 years, 20 years etc.

You need to look at the contract to know where you stand. Get a copy from the bank!
