Should you close your bank account if you don't need it anymore or just withdraw your money?

I opened three accounts with Alliance and Leicester last year so my friend, a single mum who recommended it to me, would get 50 pounds for recommending a new customer to the bank. The main one (the high interest one) has now matured and I decided to close all three accounts because I hardly used them. I gave the bank instructions on the phone on the 4th of June and I still haven't got my money back. When I asked them on the phone earlier this month, they blamed it on the postal strike. I've checked with the post office which assured me that the strike shouldn't have caused any problem. I am really fed up with banks behaving like this. I hate to think that my hard-earned cash is somewhere earning interest but it isn't mine. The lesson I've learned from this experience is "Withdraw your money but don't close the account". The whole experience of opening one of those high-interest accounts has been very negative for me.

Withdraw all but the minimum balance (somtimes 拢1, somtimes nothing) then close it, however long it takes you've already got all or most of your money.
close the account - in this day and age you never know who might get hold of the details and start to use it for bad purposes.
just withdraw the money, dont close the account down, you never know when you might need it.
You close the account.
It's negative to open an account just to benefit a friend, not to use it too! They're messing you about no more than you have them!!
If you have access to online A&L banking just transfer all your money away to another account at another bank if you have one. Otherwise go into the nearest branch and withdraw your cash there, good luck!
Close the account! Never leave an account dormant. ID Theft is knocking at your door if you do.
