What's the pros of opening a bank account at a credit union? Is it better than say a regular bank? |
Im thinking of doing that....... Will it boost my credit? It will depend on the Bank and the Credit Union that you are looking at. About a year ago I had to move my checking back to a Bank. I have never seen such ridiculous processing and fee charges in my life. They charge an NSF if you "might" be negative because there are pending holds floating in cyber-space from your debit card. Not that you couldn't transfer money from another account. Stupid! I am in the process of moving my account back over to a credit union. The fees are lower, the rates are better on both loans and credit cards. I always got better service from a CU then a Bank. There are so many affiliated offices around town but let your account get messed up - they try to send me to where it was opened. I opened it online. How stupid - I always ask why if they branches every where, cannot the office I'm in take care of the problem. No credit union usually has cheaper interest rates on loans If the credit union is too big, (too many customers), it cannot offer good service. I had this experience with one and withdrew my money to go back to a regular bank. The only advantage that I see is that cu's offer lower interest rates. It depends which credit union you bank with, but credit unions offer more services at better rates then your typical commercial bank and credit unions rates on savings and checkings usually far out weigh commercial banks however if I were you I would also look into online saving banks as well overall I only deal with credit unions. By the way no it will not boost your credit...unless you get a credit card through one of them |
