Best bank account? |
I want to change my bank account to a higher interest account. I am 19, living in the uk and currently have a natwest current account but i want to open another account since i read a report in the paper about how natwest pays a pittence in interest. I want to change to one of the better accounts such as alliance and leicster or nationwide as they pay more, but what is the best? I dont want an isa as i want to be able to put money in and take it out as and when i please, i like the freedom of a current account, i just want a bank account with more interest. What bank/account would you reccommend?? Thanks xx You can take a look at: www.moneysupermarket.com. in order to compare accounts. It will be worth you looking at those with 'E-Saver' type accounts, which have interest rates but not the paraphernalia of normal accounts. You can manage these online and transfer money electronically. Nationwide has such an account which is attached to it's 'Flex' account. I have a Nationwide account and it is pretty good and very easy to manage both the Flex account and E-Saver accounts (which you can access in one place) online. The last thing to consider is whether any of these accounts offer a 0% interest card on balance transfers, which you may also find useful. Happy hunting! I've gone with the Alliance & Leicester one - it's pretty good. But watch the v. high charges if you step out of line. Before you decide, take a look at the relevant section on www.moneysavingexpert.com. Try Washington Mutual It's a case of picking the best from a bad bunch, but currently listed at the top of the comparison table on MOTLEY FOOL (UK)* is Alliance & Leicester.... but I suggest you look at more than just the interest rate alone (e.g. customer service, etc). Personally I prefer the Halifax seeing as I've been with them since I was about 9yrs old.... they're certainly alot better than when I opened my first Current account with NatWest, and more generous with overdraft facilities.... got 拢1400 to play with between my 2 Halifax current account, while struggled to get even a 拢50 one out of NatWest (after they'd screwed me out of 拢258 of bank charges, of which I only managed to get 拢196 back). http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/ba... |
