Will a joint bank account affect my credit? |
I have great credit and my boyfriend has less than stellar credit. I want to help him get his money organized by getting joint bank account for our bills (we live together). Will that affect my credit? Please follow community guidelines when answering. Just getting the joint account won't affect your credit. But if he runs the account into overdraft too many times or too far, the bank can close it and any overdraft balance owing could be sent to collections, and that *would* affect your credit negatively. It can also affect your ability to get a new account if that one gets closed for problems and you get listed in one of the check systems. You can help him clean up his credit and get his bills organized without needing a joint bank account. Divide up your bills to know which ones you're each paying, then help him keep his checkbook balanced and things current.your credit will go down if you join with him. his may increase slightly. It will not affect your credit adversely unless he bounces checks. His history will not be attached to your credit, no. The account will be. no Not unless he has a habit of writing hot checks, then that could look bad on you. Nope--a boyfriend is a risk--nothing committal about a boyfriend---he could walk or just make YOU liable for everything because your name is also there. Less than stellar says you are probably on thin ice with this guy--you probably discussed everything and he sees MONEY $$$$$ in his pocket--so he will agree to anything like a nice little innocent boy. Give it 6 months or so--forge your name on a few checks and HE IS GONE...with your money. He is an adult--let him work out HIS money problems--what are you some kind of saint?? They don't give medals to martyrs anymore. You want to help??? Let him grow up and settle his own stuff before you get taken BIG TIME..!!! Sorry but this is a fact of life--KEEP YOUR MONEY IN YOUR BANK___EVEN IF YOU MARRY HIM...-too many girls crying in the living room while the ex-live in left with all the money--in a new car and with a big blonde on his arm. Better wake up. A mature man does NOT bring debt to a relationship. I hope the money is not the only attraction--you sound like a nice lady. Good luck |
