Japanese bank account? |
I'm moving from Canada and need to open an account in Japan. Do the banks accept traveller's checks in Canadian or US money to open an account? You need your alien registration card. That's all. Any good bank doesn't require a hanko. This is 2007. Signatures are fine. I highly recommend Citibank. You can have a multi-currency account and keep money in dollars as well as yen, transferring between the two as often as you wish. And you can set up easy online access to wire money between Canada and Japan any time. Source(s): I know everything Technically no, but all you need to do is go to the foreign exchange counter (almost every branch will have one), exchange it to yen and then open the account. 1. You cannot open a bank account without an alien card and a hanko (name stamp). Do you have a job set up so you can get the alien card?? To open an account, after you have your alien card, you will need Japanese Yen. You can exchange it at a major bank like Mizuho. Then open the account with Yen. I lived in Japan for 3 years. Adam said you would need a hanko, the name stamp, but my husband was required his signature instead of a hanko. You can also open an account at the post office. But as other people said, you may need to exchange traveler's checks to cash. **************** Jimmy.. Don't they charge 2,100 yen for "Account maintenance fee"? Well, I wasn't (and am not...) that rich :-P so I've never had money more than enough in my bank account... so I suppose they would charge me "Account maintenance fee"... Bummer! |
