Can a foreigner open a U.S. bank account?

If so, how? I have a friend who is from Ireland and who is visiting here and is contemplating staying permanently. She is interested in opening a bank account so she can cash checks and save money.

I know many illegal immigrants who have checking accounts, All they use is a gov. issued photo ID such as the matricular card for Mexicans and a tpin which is the taxpayer id issued by the IRS (this is used in place of the soc sec ) Source(s): Experience
Yes, absolutely
Yes, HSBC Still offers this facility. The process will take around 2 months but yes, you can open a checking account if you like.

The person will have provide them with their address proof, license and Passport! Its not very difficult but yea you can still open it up!
Hold an account in US while living in other country!
I have included a website that can offer alot of information for your question so you know exactly what you needed to have to open an account.
Hope it helps
