A bank allowed a withdrawal from my account with a forged document. they refuse to put it back, what can I do?

The bank acknowledged that the document was indeed not signed by me, but stated they allowed the withdrawal to be made by me a courtesy since I was in the hospital. Yes the person that made the withdrawal was someone I knew, but they did not have my permission to make the withdrawal. The bank never even picked up the phone to call me and verify.

Basically you need to inform the bank in writing that the withdrawal was not authorized. You may have to have it notarized, and they may require you to agree to prosecute whoever made the withdrawal. But you might not even have to go that far; you did not authorize the transaction and the bank knew that it was not valid, therefore you should not be liable. You may have to get an attorney and sue them if nothing else works..

You should file a police report against the person who used the forged document to withdraw money from your account. Had you previously given the bank permission to let this person do a withdraw for you because you were in the hospital?
i had some thing simular happen to me but what i was told to do was to get a police report plus a copy of the document and file charges so that the bank could return the amount that was taken out of my account . different banks work differently so you have to see how your bank wants you to proceed to correct this error

Basically unless you file charges against the person who did it for fraud the bank is probably not going to put the money back. Yes, the bank probably should have called to verify, but that still does not forgive what the person who actually took the money out.
Speak to the branch manager, or his boss if you already talked to the manager.

Demand a copy of the document (presumably a check). Then make them compare it to your signature on file.
