How to open a bank account in Sg? |
I'm not from Sg but I'll be looking for work there. Is it possible to open one if I still don't have an employment pass but am on a long-term SVP??? Most local banks won't be able to accept long term visit passes for account opening.. may try if you have an introducer who is a Singaporean/ Singapore PR. Its best to head to one of the branches to check 1st. There is also a minimum deposit requirement. should be at least $500 - $1000 for saving accounts and $3000 for current accounts. bring all your identification documents and go to the bank.. it's pretty easy. Bring your passport and head to the bank branch you want to open an account in. The staff will be able to help you complete the paperworks. You need to put in a minimum sum of money, so best to call the bank and ask before you go down. Singapore wants to be the financial centre in Asia, so the procedures are applicable to foreigners too. I'm not sure if it's still being practised but you may need an introducer... i.e. someone with an existing banking relationship with the bank in order to open your account. Here are some contact information of the banks you may find useful, perhaps you can call them when you arrive if you need to find out more. DBS www.dbs.com.sg 1800 111 1111 OCBC www.ocbc.com.sg 1800 438 3333 UOB www.uob.com.sg 1800 222 2121 Basically cannot. Some of foreign bank such as CITI Bank will allow foreigner without EP to open an account but need much amount of deposit (sorry I forgot). DBS, OCBC, HSBC, UOB request EP when you open a bank account. |
