Went to the bank to open a checking account, when the teller typed in my SSN someone else's name came up! Why? Contact the SSA right away, make certain that your records are correct and have them change your SS number. It may be identity theft or someone using your SSN because they do not have one. You might be a vicitm of identity theft. Get your free credit reports and see what's on them. The article linked to below explains how. - You will want to contact the Social Security Administration. They can help if someone is using your SSN. http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10064.html... Obviously, someone is using your SSN!!! It's called Identity Theft! How long ago did you get your SSN? If you were recently assigned your SSN, it could very well have been that the SSA reassigned a number that was used by someone that died to you. Depending on the person's number who died, you might have run into the situation where the person had an account with the same bank and even though they are deceased, the bank still have that account holder in their records. You should contact the SSA to let them know. |
