Can passwords to say my personal email, bank and credit card accounts be taken off a server? |
At my work, during our lunch we are allowed to use and surf the internet however the person who manages the server does more nosing around than managing it. Can that person say get my password to my yahoo email or other webpages off the server? It really isn't all that I don't think. Sonic wall, AVG, Mozilla...we don't work in a place where there is a lot of classified high tech info or anything. Yes he can snoop through the packets you send. My suggestion is that if your information to be secure make sure the website has https: in the address bar. This encrypts the data so he wont be able to read it! Yahoo does this on the login screen for example. people may hack and you might not even know it. never trust the internet 100% According to The National Security Institute computer data theft is the number one threat to National Security in the world right now. The person managing your server more than likely has access to everything on that server. Your Yahoo password is not stored on a server, unless you have Roboform or something else, and then it's only stored on your hard drive if you have individual desktop units. If you have a mainframe computer, then you might have a problem. However, I think it there is only a very slim chance that the nosy person can get your bank information, as that also has to be put in each time you log in, like your Yahoo ID and password. She would have to be VERY competent to search the packets as they go through the server, and be an accomplished hacker at that. You said that isn't likely, so I think you are safe. However, this situation certainly bears watching to see what this person does besides snooping! |
