Has anyone heard of a Writ of Garnishment being made at a bank where I do not have an account? |
I just received a Request and Writ for Garnishment from Wolpoff & Abramsom Debt Collection lawyer. (They are the worst. They don't want to work with you. What you can afford to pay is never enough!) Well this garnishment request is from a credit union that I have NEVER used. I have never had an account there nor has anyone ever written me a check from that bank. Why would they do this? Are they planning on doing this at all the banks/credit unions in my town? Has anyone ever heard of this? I don't have a checking account and because of this I probably never will again. Thanks for the help! Kim Not sure if the above is accurate. I don't think a bank can give out any info without a subpeona, and I can't imagine them going to every single bank. My guess...somewhere, somehow, they got word you had an account there, and they are fishing for it. Many states now have requirements where the judge can order a financial disclosure from you, telling your bank accounts and property. You must not be in one of those states. Whenever there is a subpoena for money, the lawyer will check with all local area banks to see where you have any type of deposit account. The bank must respond whether or not you have an account with them. Lawyers must do this since most people will not voluntarily give out all of their bank accounts. |
