With which bank in Britain should I open a student account?

I'm stuck between Natwest because it offers a useful five year railcard and HSBC because the guy in my local branch is really hot and I'd love to spend another ten minutes with him. Rates of interests, overdrafts, credit and all other money stuff is pretty similar.

Go for NatWest, they're a much better bank. As for the guy at HSBC, just pretend you're interested in opening an account there so you can have a few stolen minutes with him...and maybe get his number....good luck matey!
i've joined natwest, all my mates are with them and say they're really good and helpful
In hindsight I wish I had opened an account with a bank that specialised in Retail Banking as opposed to Corporate Banking. You can change later on in life, but it might be a good idea now to consider why it is a good idea to keep your personal banking personal!
how about cooperative as they r the only claiming ethical bank? they dont fund vivisection, or us and israeli terrorists.
Not sure I'm going to help you much but I've experienced Nat West and Lloyds TSB as a student and more latterly Barclays (as a joint account).

I initially went for NatWest because of their offer at the time and they were fine whilst you had credit, but turned into ogres once you were in debt....

I then swapped to Lloyds TSB who have been excellent to me, all through my student life and continuing into my professional life - even now, their counter staff are much more helpful and friendly than other banks I have been in to.

Barclays on the other hand are awful - a bit snobby about who they take and always seem to be looking down their nose at us...

As for HSBC, appealing it may be that the guy is 'hot' but say you set up there and he move on to another branch / bank... you're stuck with 'em, lol.

So, I'd say don't be too influenced by the offers - it's often a mid-long term decision which bank you go with (although it's much easier to swap accounts these days); ask around your older student friends and get their experiences too.
