If a bank errs and deposits extra money into your account, how long until the $ is legally yours? |
For instance- if they credit your account mistakenly twice with money, how long until you can spend it without them then withdrawing it from your account? (not to ethical...but I could really use the money...) they WILL find out their mistake. trust me. so if you do spend it, they'll eventually get it back from you some time. I've had it happen to me a couple of times and everytime they caught it and took the money back out. Never...........sorry! it isn't you should notify them 7 years dont count on it, they will find it, better of to make sure off of your stuff is clear and close the account before they do find it. Well, I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. The error will probably be found sooner or later. There was an instance 3 years ago when our bank deposited a check twice and never found the error...we have since closed that account and the money was spent somewhere along the way....that was just pure luck though. DO NOT spend it, they will catch it and if you have already spent it you will be that much negative in your account. They very rarely don't find where they made a mistake! |
