Which other major goes best with FINANCE, 'Accounting, Economics, Marketing or Banking'??? |
In terms of job opportunities and salary levels...I really like the concept of Marketing but is it worth while to study towards because I have heard you don't need to study 'Marketing' to become something in the 'Marketing' field. What I am finding in reading Yahoo questions and their answers is that most people don't seem to understand what marketing really is. I think that most people, when they think of marketing, think of either sales or advertising. What marketing really entails is absolutely anything involved from the time a product idea is conceived, to the time it's on the shelves. Then along with this, the product has to be managed once it's on the shelves. Of course, there has to be advertising, and there has to be someone to sell the product. But what happens when someone comes up with an idea? Someone has to figure out whether or not the idea has viability. And if the company decides the new product idea has viability, someone else has to figure out how it's going to be placed in the market. Meaning, someone has to decide how it wants the public to preceive this product. Then after this, there is the product itself. What's it going to look like, how is it going to be packaged? How's it going to be priced? Who's going to sell it? Where is it going to be sold? Is the distribution initially going to be market-wide, or are test markets going to be utilized? And all of this is way before an advertising platform is even thought of! And once a product is on the shelves... When is the time to make something new and improved? What do you when a product has been on the shelves for two years and sales are beginning to sag? Nobody thinks about Cheerios being in a yellow box as being a part of marketing, but it took 6 months to make that decision! Now, as far as your question... You ask what major goes best with finance? I would think this should relate to two things. The first being what interests you, and the second being what relates to finance. On it's most basic level, finance is money. Marketing is product. Unless you have an interest in marketing, I wouldn't necessarily major in it. The three most closely related majors to finance would be accounting, economics, and law, as banking would fall under finance. Now it's been awhile since I was in college. I do know there are curriculums in Real Estate now that didn't exist when I was a student, and maybe there are banking curriculums now that I'm not aware of. But back in my day, if you wanted to get into banking you majored in finance. But in terms of employment, Law, Accounting, and Finance, are all wide open fields. I don't know about economics. But the most important question, and one that neither of us have touched upon... What do YOU want to do? |
