Why wont bank tellers take 3rd party checks to deposit into your account but when you use the atm to deposit? |
that 3rd party check they take it anyway? is the process through the atm different or why? They will take it for your deposit, they just won't let you withdraw it until the check clears. you expect immediacy at a teller, you won't get it. It takes days for the atm schmos to get the checks out of there and cashed and cleared. They try to discourage them (hence the treatment at the bank). They take them via the ATM simply because it is less costly to them to just go ahead and process them. They would rather do that then spend all the time to track down the depositor and return the check. Besides, they have no risk, they just do not make the funds available to you until the check clears. Because the ATM is a machine and can't tell you're depositing a third-party check |
