A bank made a $8000 dollar error in favor in my financees account. Would there be consequences if she keep it. It isn't hers, so she doesn't get to keep it. When the bank discovers the error (trust me, they will) they will immediately access her account and withdraw the money. If she's already removed the money, they will send her a certified letter to repay it, usually within 7 business days. If she fails to repay it, the cops will be knocking on her door. And by the way, stealing from a bank is a FEDERAL offense. Give the money back. The bank will figure it out sooner or later. depends where you live, if you live where I do, you could do many years in jail for theft, hard labour, not like in some countries where you get phone calls, tv, cigarettes, and coffee. plus the moral issue, taking what isn't yours even in error could be a test from God to see your honesty. If she cashes it out and ran, probably. The bank will find the error in a day or so and put her account at the correct level. I wouldn't do anything with the money for the time being. They'll find it. Id close the account and move to the Bahamas! haha Let me tell you from my experience I had The bank will find out they made an error and take the money back eventually I had this happen for me it was only $255 but later when I really needed that money they left me overdrawn and I had no money for a few days... So the best bet is tell the bank you think they made an error and who knows they might grant you some of that money especially that large amount of money they might give you some of that for being honest.... yes the bank can claim the $8000 back but if you can get intrest on that account ,that is yours by right |
