What bank can I cash my federal income tax check at without an account? You really should have an account. Otherwise you will always be up against fees for cashing checks. Your return checks are viewed as cash by banks and are not subject to the normal check clearing requirements. So, I recommend opening an account with your check. Also note, depending on your age, some banks have kid friendly accounts that do not have high balance requirements, and they don't charge you fees. Any bank should cash it. You just need a picture ID probably Any Bank will let you open a account and then they will deposit you check in the account.You will have to weight about 5 days to clear.than you can get your money. Due to fraud, etc, most banks will not touch it. You can deposit it into a family members account, and then have them withdrawal it. You can also take it to a "check cashing" business, and they will cash it as well. You will have to pay a fee, but as least you will have access to your money. Good Luck!! Wife was a banker for many years. Any & all FEDERAL checks can be cashed at any United States Post Office with a valid photo identification card or drivers license. If the branch does not have enough cash on hand to cash your check, then you can purchase money orders for 95 cents each & cash them at a later date! This is a little known fact, for some strange reason, & it is FREE FREE FREE!!! YOU DON'T NEED TO GO TO A BANK. Added later: If you MUST use a check cashing facility & you only have a FEDERAL CHECK, THEN for a flat fee of $3.00, WAL-MART will cash your check. The only difference between the Post Office & Wal-Mart is your social security number. You will be asked to enter it on their electronic keypad & if you don't have it memorized, then I suggest that you take your card in with you OR write the number down on a piece of paper BEFORE you go into the store! This will save you some headaches! Perhaps you should call the store in your location BEFORE you go in because everyplace is different. I am in California & all the Wal-marts accept Federal Checks (not State) at the return counter OR just do your shopping & get in line & when the cashier gives you the sale total, you then just hand them the check & they do the rest! Be patient, because they have to go into their vault to get the money on a large check, but at least you know that they will have ALL of your cash on hand for only a $3.00 fee. How great is that! |
