Does anyone know which bank has the current highest rate for a high yield savings account?

Basically I have about 1,000 to invest and I was wanting to know the best way to invest it to make the highest profit with it?

HSBC Direct has the highest that I know of right now, at 4.8%. That is a promotional rate (no restrictions, unlike ING Direct) until sometime in May, but their base rate of 4.25% will probably rise by that time, and I expect it to remain among the highest available rates after the promotional period ends.

I should point out that ING Direct's 4.75% is restricted in such a way that customers such as myself won't be able to earn the 4.75%, and would be limited to the base rate of 3.8%. Be sure to read the fine print. Source(s): http://www.hsbcdirect.com

I know that INGDirect.com has 4.75% on savings accounts right now. There is a way you can go to MSN.com to the financial subject, and find a list of the nations top paying interest banks. Research that. I know for a fact that ING Direct is right up there at the top.....that is where I have an account. They are way higher than most of the major banks.
ING's promotional rate is only on new money deposited between December 2005 and April 2006 (the specific dates escape me.) and will only accrue on the assets through May 1st, at which time the regular rate will apply. Right now the regular rate is 3.8% but adjusts frequently.

I have used ING's Orange account now for 6 years. It is consistently among the highest rates offered.
