What happens if the bank makes an error and you get money deposited into your account that is not yours?

I asked to see a copy of the check to see who it was from, but they could not tell me. What if the realise they have made a mistake. Will they ask me to return the money?

they wont ask...they will just notify you by mail and tell you when they are deducting the money from your account. Source(s): I asked my roomemate who works at a bank
Of course, they'll want their money back.
This happened to me recently and when the bank found the error, they took the money out of my account. Just leave the money in there and pretend it doesn't exist, or else you will have to give it back.
it depens on you . because if the money is not yours u can decide if you wanna take that money or not. yuo know that its not yours.
Yes, you will have to pay it back. It's a two way street and you should know you're not entitled to the money.
It's not your money. And yes, they will eventually figure it out and will take it back. If you already withdrew it, they'll be coming after you for it.

In many jurisdictions, withdrawing money improperly deposited to your account is treated as theft if you do not immediately return it.
