I have opened an account in ICICI bank in India thre months back and came to USA.I forgot the password .Help.



No one is responding on phone and computer application is incomplete.
They want me to be present at India address to revive.I dont know how to operate and I feel bad.

So far as my experience with the bank till recently on this aspect, it is not difficult to get a new password but the process is devised in a way to protect the interests of the account holders. Even for the genuine account holder, he/she may have to co-operate due to his/her own fault of loosing the password.

Back home, ask one of your close relation to have his/her photo ID proof ready to receive the new generated password by the bank and sent to your registered address with them. The courier may ask for the ID and relationship with you of the person receiving your password communication sent by the bank. Make a formal genuine request yourself for a new password over customer care telebanking without mentioning that you are not in India. Request for new password would be taken, processed and sent to your registered address. When such communications reaches your address, let your close relative take the delivery as stated above. In the process, if some hurdles are faced, these are for your own protection and safety of your belongings in the accounts.

I deal with many major banks in India from time to time and let me tell you, almost all of them are concerned about safety aspects of the customers, particularly in telebanking and Internet Banking, passwords etc. in the wake of rise in frauds, fishing and scams.
Very tricky situation ! U need exercise full caution.
Assuming u cannot do online transactions -
I suggest to try - 1) if u have carried ur card,if any, with you to USA, u can very well reduce bal.to min.reqd. In this case, u may require to pay some (may be 2%) fee as charges for currency conversion.
2) Secondly, if u have kept card in India, u can convey somehow ur pin no.to ur fully-trusted family member who can withdraw ur money on ur behalf keeping min.reqd.balance.
U may handle a/c on ur next visit to India.

You contact the Branch manager at which you have opened the account:.When you are contacting they do not know where you are in India or in abroad:
so without telling your status,you get the help to change your password to operate the account:Otherwise write a letter and enclose all the ch etc with you and send them to close the account and pay the amount to the bearer of the letter. Come back in person to the bank where u opened your account and narrate your tale along with enough proof of residential address and identity. wait for a week in India thereafter and a new password would be mailed to you.
