Halifax Bank Froze My Account?

I am on benefits at the moment and have all my benefits paid into my Hallifax Web Saver Account. I got a loan for 拢300 of a loan company some time ago and they decided that they made a mistake and contacted my bank who in turn has frozen my account, I have been told that i cant have any access to my benefits until an investigation has been completed which mau take weeks or months. Can the bank do this? (I know they can freeze your account) but can they legally restrict access to my state benefits, I have nothing to live on, absolutley nothing. Is there a legal way to get the bank to allow me access to my benefits to live on. Any help much welcomed, I live in the UK.

Change accounts, and get your benefits paid by giro until they are going into the new account.
To cover the last lot of benefits which you cant get at, ask the DWP for a crisis loan, which you can pay back when you get your benefits from the bank.
The original loan application should have details of who the loan was for but also details of where it was to be paid in should be written on a letter or whatever from the loan company, that may help the halifax speed up the investigation.
I also think theres some data protection issues if the bank have frozen your account on the word of a loan compa
ny.
If one of your benefits is working or child tax credit, go to your local tax office once the benefit becomes overdue and ask for a hardship payment. They wont give you the full amount due but should give you some of it.
get over it
go straight to the citizens advice they are not allowed to stop access to you state benefits

also would have payment put in to a post office account
i would get in touch with your benefits office and ask them to pay you in another way until this is sorted out - they should be able to cancel your payments to the bank and send you a giro every week to cash at your local post office
Have you told your local Job Centre? They should make arrangements to pay you the old-fashioned way - a giro in the mail. The bank should have written to you explaining why they have frozen your account. It seems unusual, but you don't say what mistake the loan company made. I tried to switch to Halifax from NatWest but Halifax rejected my application for a basic current account - despite my satisfactory existing relationship with NatWest. Halifax seem to have a strange way of doing business
If I was you I would get onto the benefits office, explain what has happened and ask them to pay your future benefits to you with a Giro Cheque until this matter has been resolved. These cheques can be cashed at a nominated Post Office.
One way round this so you can get access to your money is open another bank account and phone the benefits and notify them of a change of account.

Then see whats going on with the halifax account.
At least then you'll have aqccess to your benefits when they're paid in, although not the money thats already in the halifax account.

The manager can, at his discretion, let you have some of the money, then re-freeze. But it depends on the manager.
Make an appt to see him asap (after opening the other bank account and informing benefits of the change!)
