ATM/check/debit cards now(or soon-to-be) mandatory for bank accountholders?..?

My bank is pressuring me to use my ATM/check card, but I prefer to use my trusty old checkbook...

The bank says that checkbooks are to be outlawed by 2010, and to use ONLY those cards from now on...

What's the difference between ATM/check and debit cards???...

Please answer in simple, plain banking terms I can understand(i.e., "ATM/Check and Debit Cards for Dummies"-style)!...

Thanks!

That the first I heard of banks that checksbook are to be outlawed. That will not work. Some one must be joking with you.

Paypal, Google checkout and other places require checking account information. This way they can deposit and withdraw money from your account. Are mortgage is paid by check.

In the United States
Restricted Atms cards can only be used at your banks atm

Atm cards that have Nyce, Star, Cirrus, plus, pulse, Maestro, Interlink can be used at Atm and at merchants with a pin*

Check/debit cards with either a MasterCard or Visa symbol can also be used at merchants that take those card by either signing for your transaction or entering a pin. This card can also work at atms.

Here is some further reading all about debit cards world wide. Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/debit_card...
Yeah, okay.......cheque books will be outlawed...........I don't think so. There will always situations where you need to write cheques, like for rent and in my case my bus transportation every week.

I live in Canada and most stores will not accept cheques now, only credit cards or debit / ATM / cheque cards. Up here one card, whatever you want to call it serves all purposes, ATM, check and debit. The way they look at it is if you're writing a check you might as well use the card, as they get their money faster and they don't have to worry about the cheque bouncing down the street.
