When NFS fee's bounce checks because of the NFS fee's are the banks not touching on unjustified enrichment. |
2 issues: first, the largest amt is taken out first. NSF charges are applied to the ones that follow which would have been covered. Second, by the time a customer is aware of the problem, all the time before customer awareness causes any following (next day) transactions to have NSF fee's, even a 2$ charge for using an another ATM. We can't even cover pendings with a cash deposit the same day we see the pending and before it gets applied to the account. When you open a checking account, somewhere in the documents you receive, it tells you that if you bounce a check, you will be charged a fee. If you then go write a check without enough money in the bank to cover it, how can you blame the bank because they charged the fee (that they already told you they were going to charge) and more checks bounce? The banks don't sit there and process the largest checks first just to make all the smaller checks bounce. If you had any idea how many checks come through a bank per day, you'd realize how ludicrous that is. They have no control over when your checks are going to arrive. You wrote the check to someone else. That person cashed it at their bank. Their bank sends it through a clearing house and I seriously doubt that even the same person handled those check when they were applied to your account. Unless, possibly your bank only has 3 employees or something. Then possibly the same person handled all the transactions. Lastly, your bank is NOT the one charging the $2 fee to use another ATM. The person that owns and/or operates that ATM is charging the fee. If you don't want a $2 fee from the ATM at the local gas station or where ever you're withdrawing money from, then don't use that ATM. I agree. Those ATM's are a rip off but no one is forcing you to use that ATM. Most of those in gas stations are privately owned. I don't know, but it's NSF.. non-sufficient funds. Received many of them that I had to collect on. Banks want your money, literally. Do your best to keep a balance sufficient to cover bad checks, even if this mandates that you take out a loan. Many times, the loan rate is much lower than the amount of NSF's charged! Yeah, it can be a bummer when that happens. It all comes down to this: If there isn't enough money in your account to cover all the charges, they have a right to charge the fees. You can stop payment on the check ($25) or try to pay cash to the payee. I guess I don't see a question or I'm not understanding what you want to know. Most people get so mad when they are charged NSF fee, but there is an easy way to eliminate them. BALANCE THAT CHECKBOOK! I think it's a small percentage of the world's population that actually balances their checkbook immediately (or soon after) using their debit card, writing checks, etc. I don't know how many people come in and wonder why they got charged a fee when a debit card transaction is on hold and a check tries to clear for more than the available amount. I see it everyday, and some people will come in and ask to get fees refunded. I'd suggest doing that, especially if you've been with your financial for a long time or have had a good balance so far. As someone else said, the ATM is a rip-off. Their should be no charge for using them, but if you must use one, try to only use ones owned by the financial you belong to I work at a credit union |
