What online banks offer totally free checking? |
I would like to open an online checking account that is free - charges no monthly maitenance fee. Also I'm looking for this online checking account to be able to be opened and maintained online only, meaning, no need to go into an actual bank local to open up and maintain the account. NetBank is a really good one and I already have a checking account with them, but they charge me an $8.00 monthly maintenace fee and so I'd like to see if there's a bank available that offers totally free checking and with the other requirements I mentioned above. Why do you want to do an online one?....Every bank that is open in the US has a Totally Free Checking account, I'm sure. But the online ones, I'm pretty sure Capital One has one...and possibly State Farm Bank...You may want to check into Washington Mutual - haven't heard alot of good things about them recently, but you could still check them out. They are very easy to set up and very secure. I have had my savings account through them for the past three years. Their checking account is new and has a very nice interest rate so you can actually build interest of the money you place in your account without technically needing a savings (I recommend a savings however so you actually can build up rather then dipping into it too much). I am not switching my checking account over simply because I have twelve years with my other bank and I am well established there with bills and automatic payments. I am sure there are others however so shop around and listen to other responses to find out what is best for your needs. www.ingdirect.com Simple answer: Bank of America, they dont charge anything for a checking acct, no fee for any inactive acct, you never need to go into an actual bank if u dont want. They are probably the #1 bank in U.S. , this should enough to insure the quality of the service. Did they ask you to go into the local bank because there is one? That's absurb. They offer real time chat for customers online, talk to them online or just fill out the application online, that's how I did it. I dont suggest you to believe everything they told you on the phone, sometimes they just want to hang up the phone asap, they dont care wether the solution fits your need or not. And no, i never tried chase. That's funny how you absolutely don't want a local branch? Is there a problem? Are you trying to open an account under someone else's name? Why do you care if they have local branch? That is strange.
