If I were to write a bad check and the bank pays the person, How much would they get charged? I used to work at a credit union. Here is what we did. If you write a bad check and we (your bank) chooses to pay it, we will typically charge you and additional fee. The other party you wrote the check to would not get charged and extra fee. If we (your bank) returned the check unpaid, then the person you wrote it to will be charged a fee (varies by bank). They will have the amount of the check and the fee removed from their account balance. This could also cause the other party to bounce checks, so they would be liable for an fees and money that they wound now not have in the account. that depends on the bank, but generally i think $15 not to mention the distaste in not bieng able to pay They wouldn't get charged anything, you would. The bank paid the person, so they are done. PAID in full. You have to pay the bank back plus a fee usually around $30 they don't have to pay anything - you do. But they will deduct the amount from the person's checking account that the bank gave them (if they deposited it into their account). If they just cashed the check, nothing happens to them. Why should it? They didn't bounce the darn thing. It all depends on the bank. Some charge anywhere from $10-30 for covering your check. If you bank doesn't have this service, then the person you wrote the check to might get charged anywhere from $25-50 for it. Either way it's bad for you. Why not look into getting a line of credit on your checking account - this will prevent these things from happening. could be as much as $35. if someone writes me a bad check and i deposit it to my account. if it gets returned, then I have to pay a returned check fee. on the other side, if i took it to the bank its drawn on, (your bank) they would probably decline it because they know its a bad check. so i would walk away with nothing, no fees and no money |
