What can I do if a bank is asking me to pay for an $8,000 loan that I never received a penney of? |
A "friend" I knew worked at a local bank. He asked me to sign up for a checking account. I agreed to sign up for it. I signed the paperwork that he told me to sign. Six months later, the bank is calling me asking me to pay on the loan. Turned out my "friend" was fired from the bank for tampering with bank accounts. I never received a debit card they claim they mailed or a pin. This was obviously identity theft. The only thing I did receive was blank checks, which are still sealed. The bank said they were aware that there was some forging going on in my account. They say that I'm not liable for 2 checks written since there were different date of births and socials on each of them. They said they know I didnt make out those 2 checks. They are still holding me accountable for the loan which doesn't make sense to me. Is there anything that I could do to fight this? I cannot afford to pay this and cannot have this on my credit history File a police report, get an attorney Get a lawyer. get a lawyer but first call police call you attorney general and explain what happen and his office will point you in the right direction. i would say notify the police that your friend con'd you you should not pay any of it. Maybe they got the wrong person. Me i am a lawyer "I signed the paperwork" Did that paperwork included any papers for a loan? |
