In China most of the richer banks have two stone lions outside...? |
both lions have a stone ball in their mouth, and one tends to be either standing on top of a defeated smaller lion, or has baby lions playing at its feet. At certain times of the year, they wrap red ribbons or even red blankets around them. Can anyone explain the symbolism of this to me? Temple Lion (Fu dogs) statues appeared in China with the coming of Buddhism. They symbolize defense and protection and are often seen guarding entrances and gateways to buildings. The Lion is the symbol of majestic strength, great courage and strength of character. When a Temple Lion is seen playing with a ball, it is to signify the moon pearl which symbolizes blessings and protection against evil. The ball also represents the sun, which is Yang. Always have a pair. One is bad luck. Lions are symbolizes to bring rich and fortune. Red color, for chinese people are the color of happiness and good luck. Perhaps certain times they wrap the red ribbons are like new year or chinese new year, so to wish that the new year will bring happiness and good luck. Lions represent strength and most likely victory. In the Chinese tradition, the pearl in their mouth is what symbolizes victory of some sort. The Lion on top of smaller lions represent the strength and ability of the lion, which in turn, hopes for a good fortune and strength for the banks. Its also used in many other places though. This is from my personal knowledge. |
