What UK banks are sympathetic to bankrupts ?

I was made bankrupt and have obviously found it very difficult to open a bank account that will give me a debit card. I do not want credit ,just access to the money that i deposit.

That may be problematic.. try an Abbey Flexible Saver account. I don't think you will be able to get a Visa Electron or Switch card but this is a simple account which enables you to withdraw money with a cashpoint card and get money paid into the account by bacs or whatever.

To be honest it can be difficult for people who aren't bankrupt to get a debit card such as a switch/electron whatever. A number
of years ago I owed about 拢500 on a Halifax overdraft and they changed my current account into a saving account until I paid it off. I tried to open up another current account and everyone said No. Eventually [after a lot of effort and a couple of years] I got a simple current account with the Co-operative Bank [no cheque book, but a Visa electorn card and the capacity to bank online and set up direct debits and standing orders].

Try the Co-operative Bank. Even if you don't have a Co-op bank in your town you ca nuse the card to withdraw your cash at post offices... most other banks are w******* and really won't give people a chance...

The only downfall with the Co-op is that if your account goes into the red by even small amounts and on more than 2 occasions [they can close your account].. so you have to keep an eye on your account at all times!
Good luck!
Unless you are a millionaire drug dealer or z list celebrity none.
Try the co-op

I was bankrupt and I had 10k wiped
Personally I don't think Lloyds would give me an account now though
you can get no credit accounts with quite a few banks personally i use nat-west you can get a list from the citizens advice or alternatively you could try www.nationaldebtline.co.uk for free debt advice they may also be able to provide an online list
They are un sympathetic because, before you went bust, you must have realised what was happening, if you told your bank about it early enough, they may have been able to help. Unfortunately , they will now consider you as someone who won`t listen or take advice, and they don`t want to run the risk that you will open an account and once again overspend. Most of the managers are not free to do as they please, after all, they are looking after other peoples money. I am afraid that you will find that your financial life is going to be difficult for a long time to come. I had an acquaintance who went bankrupt, he got him self three jobs and worked 80 hours a week for three years until he was discharged.
