We received a bank draft from an inheritance in England in pounds. How long should we allow for transfer? |
The bank told us at first 4 days , then 2 weeks, and now we hear it might take up to 8 weeks..Is this a reasonable time frame? The draft has to be changed from pounds to us dollars. It is through a building federation. It's a bank draft Holly...It is guarenteed money...Bank's have a tendency to hold international cks longer than is needed...They make money on it while you wait....After all, we live in an instant computorized age. I would think 2 or 3 day's should be sufficient...Call a few banks and check their policies...2 to 8 week's is rediculous.... :) It takes about 5 minutes of computer time to figure that out, it takes about 1 hour on useing paper,pen and a calculator, they are being misleading. You can do the conversion free right now at most any Financial or Bank site. It takes as much time as it takes you to type the figures in, and press enter, 5 secs computing time, and results. Contact an attorney, your Consulate ir both. If the amount is more than X? the federal goverment might place a hold on it, but that is just for drug and criminal junk. Did you fall for one of those e-scams? did you need to pay for transfer? Electronic transfer of funds at most 2 days. automatically converged to US. That bank you refer to is in need of direction. Keep pestering them. We receive international wire transfers all the time. Although not exactly the same as a draft, they usually take 3 days maximum to hit our account. |
