What are my chances of getting an investment banking job in New York if i graduate from the Uni. of Georgia? If you have straight A's and live in NYC it will be a piece of cake. People from all over the US work in NYC. You just need the edge of living here for a month to conduct a massive search. If you attempt to get the job from Georgia, then you will not be fair to yourself. You get in with the Headhunter, the headhunter likes you on MOnday, your AT the company the next monday. One interview later, you've got the job. ASSUMING YOU ARE A FINANCE MAJOR. Remember, you will start at the bottom, so dont expect to be doing anything of much importance for the first year. Its after that first 12 months where the world opens up. Good luck, Kid. Really it just matters on grades and selling yourself. I have a friend who is investment banking in NY and he graduated from UTEP so you never know....just be positive and believe in yourself and anything can work out Getting a job anywhere does not depend upon what school you graduate from. It all depends on several factors, among them how much competition you have, skills, experience, grades, and ultimately how you sell yourself to the prospective employer. Not to be flip in answering, but the fact that you felt YA was the best place to ask this question does not bode well for your career prospects... UGa has a pretty solid business school, so the quality of the education should not be an issue in seeking employment. New York is a huge hub for investment banking, so it is a good place to look if that is the industry in which you are interested. With just an undergraduate degree you should be applying for analyst jobs with the investment banking firms as they will typically require an MBA or CFA for true advancement. Good luck. |
