Best Buy or Circuit City credit card?

Best Buy gives you 2% back in rewards on purchases at BestBuy.com or their stores, which in combination with the 2% you already get from their Reward Zone program makes a total of 4% back. They give 1% for purchases everywhere else.

Circuit City gives 5% back on purchases with them and 1% everywhere else.

I usually end up shopping at Best Buy more, but that is because I seem to run into more deals there, not out of preference. If I went with CC's card then I could still gain 2% from my Best Buy Reward Zone card in addition to CC's 1% back for a total of 3% if I bought stuff from Best Buy, but the points would be split between the two stores, which means it will take me longer to redeem my rewards at either. While if I go for Best Buy's then I'll get only 4% back which is 1% less than shopping at CC with their own card, but the reward points will be combined.

Which do you think I should go for?

If your credit rating will allow it, you should get both to maximize the rebates from each store. The drawback to that of course is you then have two more credit cards. (It won't cost any more if you don't start buying more.)

But don't just look at the rebates... if you tend to put off paying back your purchases a high interest rate will eat all the money you 'saved' several times over, and you will be paying interest on the full price of that new TV until the rebate is actually issued.

So unless you pay the store-brand cards off monthly (or at least quickly), you're better off getting the lowest rate card you can find, wherever you can find it.
