Best Credit Card for Student? |
I have good credit and I was looking for a creidit card with a bigger credit line. My current card is a Chase Mastercard with a credit limit of $500. I'm never late on payments and keep a small balance. I was just wanting one with a bigger credit line and possibly some benefits? I dont want an annual fee or activation fee though. A couple of the better student rewards credit cards (without annual fees) are the Citi mtvU card and the Citi Driver's Edge for Students card. Those cards are good for very different spending profiles though. Driver's Edge is good for a spending profile heavy in gas, grocery, and drug stores. The mtvU card is better for a spending profile heavy in restaurants and entertainment. You can use this rewards calculator to see which student rewards card will pay you the most for your normal spending: http://www.creditcardtuneup.com/?card_ty... Source(s): http://www.uthunk.com/ As a student you should be able to qualify for a local credit union. With your responsible credit history you can probably get a starting balance of at least a few thousand, as well as a decent percent (14.9-ish). You won't like this answer, but the answer is NO CREDIT CARD. Learn early on to stay out of revolving credit debt and you will be far happier and much more successful, not to mention much richer. If you want a more impressive card get an AMEX, green or gold card. They are impressive and they are charge cards, not credit cards, so you must pay the entire balance upon receipt of statement. This will help you learn not to carry balances on credit cards, thereby forcing you to live with in your budget. Sorry about my answer--but it will prove to be the best advice, as time will tell! OK, You are just starting out. Stay with only that card and with time your limit will increase. Having too much credit or debit both can be bad. If you have too much credit some companies will be leary giving you more, such as you want to buy a car. The best way is to get a credit/debit card from your bank and use that more often instead of cash and you will establish more credit that way also and you are in the "safe" zone. Being an adult with personal experience. I disagree with those who say stay away from credit cards. I do agree that they should be used wisely. I have used them for opportunities when I didn`t have the cash ON ME AT THE TIME. If you have good credit established with the card you are now using, you can call them and ask for a limit increase, without having to change cards. No annual fee, pay off the accnt, balance each month, and your card will actually MAKE you money, if you have the right card. I go out to eat occasionally on mine, using my points. I haven`t paid for the use of my card in years. You sound responsible, keep it up. |
