What is the best way to deal with credit card companies.?


I have several credit cards and am having some difficulty paying them. Some of them are late. I have met with a financial consultant and developed a plan to get out of debt. What is the best way to communicate this with the companies. I have written a letter and have sent it, but wanted other thoughts as well.

Explain your situation to them. Credit card companies would rather you pay small amounts for a longer period of time than get nothing at all (declaring bankruptcy for example). The worst thing is to ignore them, then they sell your debt to another company that charges outrageous interest
If you have met with a financial consultant, they should communicate with your creditors, not you.
consolidate your debts to one credit card company. then never use your credit card. burn it. close the account but let the company know that you will continue to make payments until its paid off. use only cash. oh... this company must have a very low interest rate. this company must also be a local financial institution.
It's important to get something in writing from them that they acknowledge the fact that you are attempting to right the situation... Usually most companies will suspend finance and late charges if they know you have a plan.

I know they did for my son.. He had one card that agreed to a balance transfer.. he put everything on that one card.. they agreed to a reduced interest rate and he only had one payment. Then I bought him a pair of scissors.
