Is it legal for a large online business to keep all of my past credit card numbers/info that I asked deleted? |
Over the past two years, I used various credit cards and debit cards to pay a well known online business. I called today to renew their service and pay by credit card. I chose to call so that I could request and be sure that after they received their confirmation they would not keep the information on file in their system. They told me that it was impossible to delete it and they had four different cards on file from past transactions. I asked to speak to a supervisor and I was told that there were supervisors but they would not talk to customers --and (exact verbatim quote) "There never will be a supervisor available to help you." They would not give me a telephone number of the corporate office. A 2nd call revealed even more cards. Is this legal? I live in Connecticut. The business seems to be in California (& TX?) How can I get my credit card info removed? Can I somehow (short of hiring a lawyer) force them to delete the information? Why on earth would they insist on keeping it? I would talk to a lawyer, wether legal or not, they may be persueded to delete them. The least expensive way to do this is: http://getprotectedhere.com I do not know all I can say is I never give any information on line ever. I will never trust this system for serious needs. I do not know what the law is and maybe tell this company you are canceling your service period. That is the only thing they hear if they listen to that. Best of luck I hope someone gives you some helpful information on this. WELL FRANKLY YES. BE SMART AND CALL ONE OF THE 3 CREDIT INFORMATION COMPANIES AND SPEAK TO THE FRAUD ALERT DIVISION. PUT A BLOCK ON YOUR ACCOUNT AND IF SOMEONE TRIES TO USE YOUR CARD THEY WILL INFORM YOU FOR AN OK FIRST.ALSO THIS STOPS THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY FROM GETTING YOUR INFORMATION.THEY ARE 800 NUMBERS SO NO COST TO YOU. It seems to me that the company should have a supervisor on demand so that when a customer calls like you he is available. But i need to know what the cmpany is so I can tell you what to do. I think you should invesigate why this company has the power to keep yurcredit cards on record. Hope I helped!! You could also tel the you don't want to stck with thecompany anymore Technically speaking they should not keep your credit card information. However, I have worked for several companies that kept all of the information. I asked my manager about this one day and found myself fired from that position. |
