I want to clean up my credit - where do I start? Is there a business that can do this for me? Good free info on creditboards.com - just a website, not a credit company Source(s): www.creditboards.com Not sure what you mean by clean up. The first step is to get a copy of your credit report to see what's there. You are entitled to three free credit reports per year (if you live in the USA). Go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com... (don't use any other sites for this, this is the only one that's actually free). The only way to clean up your credit is to pay your bills on time. There is no other way. There is no one who can do it for you; only you yourself can. There are credit counseling agencies that might be able to help negotiate reduced interest rates on unsecured debt (personal loans and credit cards) but not on secured loans (cars and home mortgages, for example). This can help you get out of debt more quickly and that of itself will help improve your credit rating. There is NO quick fix to cleaning up your credit rating, with the exception of correcting errors on it. Only a long period of time that reflects responsible use of credit and on-time payments will build a clean record and a high FICO score. Anyone who claims to be able to do otherwise is a SCAM ARTIST and should be avoided. Some of the things these scammers may tell you to do are outright illegal and could get you jail time for fraud. At best, they'll leave you deeper in debt and with a worse credit rating than when you started. Been there, done that!
