I have started an online small business. I am based in ohio. How do I handle sales tax? Your online Ohio business, if it has no connection to other states (other than online sales), only needs to collect and remit Ohio sales tax on sales shipped to Ohio addresses. You can register with Ohio online at the link below. You will NOT need to collect and remit sales tax for sales shipped to other states. Ohio also has a new CAT (commercial activities tax) which is imposed on the seller. The good news is you only need to register if your annual taxable gross receipts are more than $150,000 and there is no CAT tax on the first $1 million of annual sales. You can read more about it on the OH website. Source(s): http://tax.ohio.gov/divisions/sales_and_... go to ohio.gov/ you are to charge sales tax to ohio residents and businesses with a presence in ohio Scrupulously. This is something that you really have to take seriously and keep impeccable records on. When you report your total sales, and sales tax collected, that goes to the Ohio government. They're happy to take a check. Just be sure that your total sales reported for sales tax purposes match your total sales reported for income tax purposes. |
