Car Tax and MOT certificate? |
Right, help needed. My car tax runs out on 31 July this year, my MOT certificate is valid until the 2 August this year. I can't get my car in for it's service and MOT until the 2nd August as the garage is booked up until then. Can I still tax my car for a year using this MOT certificate as don't want to be driving around for 2 days with no tax? I need use of my car on the 1st August but don't want to take the risk of having no tax even for 1 day. Looked on the DVLA website but can't find anything that says the length of time an MOT certificate needs to be valid for getting a new tax disc! Help? YES you can tax you car as long as you MOT as not run out, does not matter if the mot as one day to run one week or one month it is still valid, so yes you can tax your car for 6 or 12 months the day before the mot runs out regards x kitti x Yes it's valid at the time of re-taxing so it's fine. The easiest thing to do is re- tax online I did last week and the disc was here within two days as long as you have a valid mot you can tax the car Yes you can go ahead and tax your car on its current MOT certificate. The testing guy may remark how fortunate you are to have a few days left in which to do it. Let's hope it passes the test. I'd go to the post office and tax the car as normal. No reason why your MOT shouldn't be valid. Yes you still have three days of your M.O.T so renewing you tax is not a problem As I understand it, the MOT has to be in date on the first day of the new tax. You seem to be OK provided you tax the car before the 2nd Aug. But knowing the people you encounter at the post office etc. they may query it, you just need to explain it is booked in for MOT on 2nd. |
