Can i import a car from the usa & if so will i have to pay any tax or vat or import duty.7? Yes you do. Amounts due and rates of duty depends on certain circumstances. You need to contact HMRC and ask for written advice. They have leaflets on most things. It is costly to do so, but could end up saving a couple of thousand bucks absolutely. you will pay the taxes and customs duties I imported a car from the USA to Belgium in 1993. Your experience may be similar. 1. I owned the car in America for more than 6 months. 2. The car was more than 25 years old (a 1966 Plymouth) Therefore there was no VAT for this old car, that was already my possession. IF I had sold the car in Belgium within 6 months, I WOULD have had to pay some import taxes. but I didn't. NEW CARS: 1. If you buy a car in the USA and immediately ship it to the UK, YES.. you'll pay duty. 2. You May not be able to buy a car newer that 5 years old and import it. Now you are competing with UK dealers and New car sales. The "new" car may not comply with UK laws concerning glass, seatbelts, emmissions, colour of plastic taillights, etc. Fuel requirements for American cars are 87, 89, 91 octane. What does your country have? 95, 98? 3. You should ask all these questions at the Customs Office OR the tax office in a big city in the UK. PS: After 2 months in a container, on the sea, all 4 new tires were rubbed and damaged by rocking constant motion. Put cheap old tires on your car beforehand. u will pay all the above , unless u US military stationed there. |
