Im in MI, live in FL want to buy a new car here and take it home w/out paying double tax and registration help In most states you can be issued a temporary tag, which will allow you to take the car to your home state, without paying tax or titling it in the state where you purchased the vehicle. The dealer should be able to help you with this! Source(s): 26 years in the auto business I believe when you go into your home state DMV and file the transfer they will take into account of taxes already paid and you will just need to pay the difference. Contact them to make sure tho. Miss and Ark require you to pay Taxes agian, You should be safe>!! buy the car here, you have the title so when you get back to florida get the registation processed there, you can drive the car without the tag, if you have the title, if you get pulled over explain the situation. Ugh! Florida is one of the worst states about this situation. I really don't know if there is any way to dodge the dual taxes other than possibly manipulating the sale through FL, (new cars only). You need expert advise on this one. |
