How they caluclate the taxes while I am buying used car?

I am thinking to buy used car for 2500,,but i know they gonna take taxes and fees,,did anyone know how they calculated or in other words how much should i put over the price of the car!!

It goes by the county you register the vehicle in California. As for fees you have to smog it when there's a change of ownership but you can get the seller to pay for that. If the tags are current you only pay the transfer fee of $15 if not you pay the tags for the year. Unless, you can get the seller to put down that you gave him alot less for the car then you only pay taxes on that amount. I know that's not legal but I'm sure it happens alot between private party sales.
It's usually by the state sales tax, since it is paid to the state when the car is registered.
