Career in insurance? |
I am considering a career change and am interested in Insurance sales. Is this a good field of work to get into? any advice on how to get started? It depends on what you are looking for. Are you looking to be independent or work for someone? I work from home independently as a broker for a discount health and dental company. You are paid commission based on your sales and sales team. If you are interested in doing something like this then check out the web site listed below Click on Contact Us for more information. Source(s): http://www.iboplus.com/40495921... What kind of ins. Life or P&C ( Property and casualty? This is a good place to start. Go visit a couple of independent agents and talk to them. Decide if you want to focus on life and health only or be a full lines agent (life, health, auto and home). Then you have to take an insurance class and pass your state exam to get your license to sell. After that the rest is up to you. Some people do very well and some fail. I personally have been in the insurance field for over 30 years and have raised a family and done quiet well. Hope this helps. its considered a job if you really like it, go to insurance company and they give you a commision, and they will teach you all about insurance and it is good to know more so you can answer all client question. Some company give allowance for the agent. So goodluck It is a good field, most people need insurance of one kind or another. If you get paid on renewals, and do a good job of keeping your clients, then your income could double or triple very rapidly. As for how to get started, that depends on what your goals are. You can be an insurance producer, who is paid hourly, maybe with bonuses, or you could be an agent, who is paid commission, maybe with some base or subsidy. You could start your own agency and get appointed with several companies and be an insurance broker. You should probably figure this out first, then your licensing & training may be handled by the company you work for. I interviewed with several companies when I started. I was looking to be an independent contractor and set my own hours, so I took the commission only route. I will get a subsidy for two years (based on production) once I fulfill the initial training. Until then, it's only commission. |
