Can past tax returns be used to establish income when seeking child support? Someone's faking a salary!?

My soon to be ex-husband has supplied a check stub that seems awfully low. He has also quit the second job he had once he was served with divorce papers. He sends irregular payments of $300 for 2 children. I live in GA if that helps. The second job brought in almost $12000 a year and his primary job is supposed to be $31500. How can I handle this?

If you can obtain copies of them if you filed jointly do so. After that make an appointment with the child support bureau in your area to discuss them and the irregular payments and that should help I would hope. Good luck on this !State laws vary, but generally if the parent is unemployed the judge will base the support on what the parent *could* and *should* be making based on his education, job and salary history, etc.

$300 for 2 children seems awfully low to me.
States usually take the average income from the past 3 years income tax returns as a base amount to determine child support.
