How can the state of Maine attach my income tax return (I live in AZ.) for alimony saying it is child support? |
My children are grown and all past child support paid. My ex-wife has an alimony order that I can't pay. The state of Maine is trying to collect under the department of child support enforcement. I owe the alimony but not child support and my kids are 23 and 25. There was an order for child support for the youngest and it was paid in full. The last child only lived with her for 3 months, then the childsupport order stopped. They're not saying it's child support. You obviously agreed to the alimony payments in the divorce decree, and you are liable for them. The child support enforcement division has jurisdiction over all support payments. She has a right to enforce the tenets of the settlement agreement. If your financial status has changed, you can petition the court to revise. You need a good lawyer. Get one pronto! You really need a good lawyer. A lawyer would help but Main obviously has a court order. You need to contest. . .have fun. . . |
