Attention all accountants! I live in Toronto, Canada. Are music lessons for my children tax deductible? |
I know that previously they were not, but with recent federal budgets, this may have changed. If so, what are the conditions? I would recommend calling CRA general enquiries at 1-800-959-8281. They are open extended hours now until 9 p.m. EDT until April 30, 2007. I tried looking on CRA's website, can't find a thing, if they have updated information, then they would be able to provide you with details on how to make such a claim, if it's eligible, of course. Hope this helps you. check the website....www.cra.gc.ca I heard nothing in the budget to suggest they would be Simply put No. Tuition fees are only deducted by the student who took the course even if paid by another person. Recent budget proposals have added possible tax credits for sports activities that will help children keep fit so it appears that music lessons will also not be deductible in the future. Look at it as an investment in your child's future. Personal experience |
