I'm married and have 3 children, but on my tax software it says i can only claim 2 of them for the eic? Correct, the EIC is based on zero, one, or two children. However you can get the dependency exemptions, child tax credit, additional child tax credit, and dependent care credit for all three children, so put all of them on the tax return. You don't pick which children qualify you for EIC, usually the software picks them according to age, or how they are listed. yes, so sad...but you only get enough EIC to grab 5000.00 from the govt! you have to call the support number and they will tell you how to fix this.. I think the fed only allow you to claim up to two children only That's correct. You can claim all three children as dependents, and get the exemptions for them, and the child tax credit for all three if they qualify (are under 17). But EIC just has three categories: no qualifying child, one q. child, or two or more. So for EIC, you get the same amount whether you have 2 or 12 kids. |
