Tax question about my dependent with children?

I support my dependent and she has two kids back home in North Carolina which she sends money to. I give her money every week in return she sends money back home and uses the rest to live off on in search of a job here in NJ

I've done this for the entire tax year 2006 and have all receipts necessary .Is there anything extra I might be eligible to claim on my tax return.

Thanks

you would only be able to claim your girlfriend? if :

1. she had income of less than $3,300
2. she lived with you ALL year
3. you provided more than half her support in 2006

since you mentioned she got a job, im not sure if she would pass the income limit.

if she does meet these requirements, you could file as "head of household" instead of single.

you CANNOT claim her kids as dependents, as they are not your qualifying children nor qualifying relatives. in fact, your girlfriend cant even claim her kids as dependents since they did not live with her for more than half the year.
If she has had the kids more than 50 percent of the year, she needs to sign IRS form 8332 relinquishing her rights to claim the child that year. If this was written into any sort of divorce agreement, and it passes IRS scrutiny, you can attach that to your tax returns.
