How can you stop someone from using your child as a dependent on there taxes?

More info is needed. If you are divorced and the custodial parent you must refer to the decree of divorce as to what year your ex can and cannot take. If you live with some-one say a family member that gives most of the support then why would you think you should get it. There is a lot left out of your question.Like why did they start how long etc.
call the IRS
The IRS lets the first person who files a return claim the child, and when a 2nd person files they will ask for more info and proof. File as soon as you can. Contact the IRS if this has happened before, and maybe they can do something.
